The horse is the most susceptible of all domestic animals to tetanus. The disease is the result of a toxin produced by the bacteria Clostridium Tetani. This bacteria is very common in the soil and in most cases it gets into horses via wounds. It is vital to keep your horse's tetanus vaccine up to date with the recommended protocol below. If your horse manages to cut itself it is also important to phone the practice so that we can give anti-toxin to further lessen the chance of getting tetanus.
